I Uninstalled NetNewsWire From My Phone
I uninstalled NetNewsWire from my iPhone today. Last night, as I was dozing off, I had this feeling, this feeling that I’ve had many times in the past, that reading so much on the web may not be a good thing. Like I’m not getting the time to think, or read longer stuff - essays and books. This is not new of course. What is also not new is this want to write more, write more meaningful stuff. Both stream and garden. Not just stream. And of course it was a thing I did when I picked up the phone. I want to have fewer reasons to pick up my phone. I keep uninstalling and installing IG, which is the one sticky, addictive social platform I’m on. Threads/Mastodon/Bluesky have never felt addictive to me. Which maybe the reason why Bluesky is adding so many video features to it’s app.
Anyway. This was about NetNewsWire, reading on the web in general, but reading via RSS in particular. I kept thinking what value it brought. Or was it just FOMO. And I thought what’s the harm in testing this out. So, it’s gone for at least a month. And if I feel, there was a ton of positive outcomes that it wrought, then it will be back. Otherwise no.
Like all this reading - news mostly on the verge, and the guardian was just entertainment. Maybe the problem is feed? But whatever. The problem I think is reading too much, and too sporadically.
Mind you, NNW is not gone from either my Mac or the iPad. I could sit with my iPad and read in the morning, with my cup of coffee. It being on the phone is the problem for me.
