How—and Why—to Cull Your Book Collection by Maris Kreizman

  1. The books to keep are the ones I keep revisiting.
The most important rule in book collecting is to make sure that the ones that are thoroughly underlined and marked up, the ones you found truly revelatory, are easily accessible. Looking at them every day becomes part of who you are, and to me that’s one of the best feelings in the world.

This one makes sense to me. It’s funny that the point I’m quoting is about keeping books and not culling them. Though most of the article reads like that.

I have a similar rule about books that I buy and keep on the shelf. These are books that I would re-read. Otherwise, the wonderful Helmet allows me to read as much as I want and could.

What Are the Routines of So-Called Super-Readers? by Kelsey Rexroat

Super-readers read on lunch breaks and before bed, on buses and in grocery lines, and sometimes—confessed sheepishly—during meetings with the camera off. [..]

Phones and e-readers make this possible, turning idle moments into opportunities to microdose literature. Reading is not scheduled so much as threaded throughout the day.

I find doing this myself.

For this article, the writer did not include people who read audiobooks. I use audiobooks extensively though.

Whatever works.

Microsoft is closing its employee library and cutting back on subscriptions by Tom Warren

In an internal FAQ about the changes, Microsoft notes that subscriptions aren’t being renewed as “part of Microsoft’s shift to a more modern, AI-powered learning experience through the Skilling Hub.” This means the physical library space is changing, too. “The Library closed as part of Microsoft’s move toward a more modern, connected learning experience through the Skilling Hub,” notes the FAQ. “We know this change affects a space many people valued.”

Disgusting to read this. Libraries are awesome.
