The good people of Finland

About going to sell my phone and unexpected kindness

I went to Iso Omena to sell my old iPhone today. I entered the store, took a number and waited. I was hoping the same person who gave me my new phone on Friday will take my phone today. I guess we all crave familiarity. Or at least I do. That must say something about me. Right? Psychologically?

Anyway.

I did get the same person. They took the phone, looked at the sides, then typed somethings on the computer. Then he looked and said,

"Have you been to Swappie?"

"What?" I said.

"Swappie?", he said, "It's to right. You can go ask them how much they will give your for this phone."

Mind you, I was not there to ask for an evaluation. I was there to sell my phone. Whatever price they offered, which was 340 euros, I was fine with that.

I smiled, thanked him and got up. I went to the Swappie store a couple of stores over and talked to the person there. They offered a higher price for the phone. I filled up the form, left the phone there and walked out.

And I thought to myself, this would not happen in India. Which is not to say that the people back home are not good or anything. Everything is so damn competitive. Everything becomes a fight for survival. We forget what makes us humans.

Kindness costs nothing.
